College Connect Chinese Translator Volunteer Description
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with College Connect at Mission Graduates. Mission Graduates is a community-based nonprofit organization that works to increase the number of K-12 students in San Francisco’s Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education.
College Connect is a family-based college-counseling program for low-income youth who will be first-generation to attend college. The program is designed to ensure that deserving students who meet specified criteria receive the guidance they need to choose the right college, gain acceptance, and graduate with a college degree.
We are looking for a self-motivated and detail oriented individual who is interested in volunteering their time as a translator. Fluency in both reading and writing in English and Chinese (Cantonese or Mandan) is a must. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to gain experience as a translator and volunteering with youth in the Mission community.
The description below is for an approximately 2.5-hour a month, September through May. You will work closely with the College Connect Lead Counselor to translate communication materials from English to Chinese. This work can be done at home or in our office. You will also get an opportunity to work with our youth if interested.
Translation Work:
- Assist Lead Counselor each month in translating communication material between College Connect to parents and youth (translation may include but not limited to 3 one-page newsletters, meeting notes, and other communication materials as needed.)
- Maintain timely deadline.
- Maintain detail and accurate translations.
