Pica Pica welcomes Venezuelan Chef Jose Luis Alvarez to San Francisco! We want to share his amazing Venezuelan cooking with you.
The event offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the origin of the flavors that characterize our menu- a unique mix of Afro-Caribbean, European and indigenous traditions, tastes and ingredients which are the hallmarks of authentic Venezuelan cuisine.
About Chef Alvarez:
Born in Maracaibo in the Venezuelan state of Zulia, Jose Luis Alvarez originally studied architecture but after three years decided to pursue a culinary career. He studied at the Centro des Estudios Gastronomicas (CEGA) in Caracas. He has worked as a personal chef, owned and operated his own catering company and also served as chef to various embassies in Venezuela. Chef Alvarez received the “2008 Venezuelan Chef of the Year” award from the Venezuelan Gastronomic Academy for his many contributions to the development of Venezuelan cuisine. Also winner of the Venezuelan culinary award “The Golden Fork” (El Tenedor de Oro), Chef Alvarez is flying up to Northern California from Caracas and will treat attendees to a tasting menu of fine Venezuelan cuisine.
