One of the critical series of workshops presented by Parent Partner Program team each year is how to bring literacy into the home, regardless of language barriers.
And for parents at Flynn Elementary, the most recent Taller de Lectura focused on understanding and working within the Fountas & Pinell reading levels used during the school day.
While students may know which shelf to grab a book from in the library based on their level, it is important for their parents to understand their student’s current level and how they can support their progress through the levels.
And for parents who do not read in English themselves, the Parent Partner Program detailed ways to stay engaged and involved in student’s literacy development, such as asking questions about characters and themes.
