This summer, College Connect has been lucky enough to work a new summer intern, Grace Kang. A graduate of UC Irvine, Grace is currently working towards her Masters in Public Administration at CSU East Bay. Actively involved in her church as the Principal/Director of their Sunday School, she brings a great skill set to her work at College Connect.
Grace first learned about Mission Graduates and College Connect through a friend and former volunteer and felt that working with high school age youth in the College Connect program would be a wonderful learning opportunity. Working out of the CC office twice a week, Grace works with the CC staff to brainstorm volunteer activities, create programs for CC students, and research retention strategies. She created a very impressive recruitment video for College Connect as well! Check it out on the College Connect page here.
Grace is also a dedicated volunteer, acting as a writing coach this summer. Paired with Rae, a member of the 6th cohort of CC, Grace is helping to guide him through the Personal Statement writing process. She is also working with several CC students to research and build their college lists.
“I have only been here for a month and a half but I have loved every minute of my time here so far. Cat, Jill, and Luis have all been very welcoming and are a pleasure hang out with in the office. My favorite part would have to be working with Rae on his personal statement and with a small group of students on developing their college lists. These students are so much more motivated and excited about college than I was at their age and it is so motivating to see them work for their future.”
