As our College Connectors prepare to become college students, we help them along the way with transition to college workshops. Workshops include topics such as goal setting, time management, money management, choosing classes, campuses resources, sex Ed 102, and safe party planning.
David Delp from Pilot Fire, a long time supporter of Mission Graduates, delivered his workshop on goal setting and time management in his usual humorous style. Students learned how to balance their college lives with the added bonus of laughing and playing a goal setting ball game (Check out our College Connect Facebook page for more pictures).
We also had a panel of six of our college student’s talk about their college experience, give advice and answer questions from our rising college freshmen. Our college students are an essential part of our programming as they give our high school students a fresh perspective on college life, challenges and the fun stuff college has to offer.
Makda Beyene, our summer intern and cohort 4 College Connector, facilitated a scenario workshop covering topics such as where to find campus resources and financial aid. We integrate college students as much as possible into these workshops to ensure our rising college freshmen can ask questions we may not cover and to build community among all College Connect cohorts.
As the summer moves along, we continue to work with our students to accept financial aid awards, register for orientations and get the housing process completed. Students often ask, when will all this paperwork be over? Answer: On your first day of class in college. Adelante!
