This past fall semester, Mission Graduates at the Bryant Extended Day Program has been partnering up with the local organization- Girls on the Run! Twice a week for an hour period, 16 girls from grades 3-5 participated in the club, which was much more than simply a running club. The organization specializes in building young girls’ self esteem and friendship with each other. The girls did a variety of trust-building activities, talked about their families and friends, bullying, hopes and dreams– all while practicing running for a 5K run. The girls had their 5K run at Golden Gate Park on December 7th and had a wonderful time! Teachers and other staff at the school signed up to be a buddy runner and ran with individual girls to keep them motivated during the run.
Families and friends came to support their girls as everyone listened to music, danced, shared food, and motivated each other for the 3-mile run. About half the girls had participated in the program last year and all of them are excited to participate in Girls on the Run again the future. Thanks to all the girls who participated and we will see you in the next run!
