Last month, the Bryant Select SCORES soccer team concluded a successful season in a “Fall Frenzy” Tournament, which consisted of six one-period games. It was a day of non-stop action that not even cold and rainy weather could slow down.
That evening, the students who made it through the first round of poetry auditions were invited to the Winter Poetry Party at Everett Middle School. Each year, America SCORES, a national organization dedicated to literacy and soccer, hosts a National SCORES poetry slam in New York City where poet-athletes from all over the country come together. Two Bryant students, William Narvaez and Keilyn Cortez, participated for a chance to represent the Bay Area at this National Slam.
At the Everett Audition, among the other Bay Area SCORES participants, William and Keilyn recited their poems they worked so hard on during the semester in front of a packed audience. They were nervous with stage fright jitters at first, but did an amazing job delivering their memorized poems.
Keilyn is now a finalist for the trip to New York where she would have the opportunity to participate with other SCORES participants from all over the country at the New York Stock Exchange. The finalists will be interviewed soon to complete the judging process. We patiently wait for the judge’s decision and wish Keilyn nothing but the best of luck!
